Pam and Rolando Del Maestro Family William Osler Medical Student Essay Awards

Current and incoming medical students at McGill are invited to explore the historical, social, ethical, and humanistic side of their field thanks to an essay contest established by the Medical Students’ Osler Society and the Board of Curators of the Osler Library of the History of Medicine, and endowed through a generous gift by Pam and Rolando Del Maestro.

Molina Foundation Osler Library Medical Student Research Awards

The Molina Foundation has generously offered funding for a summer research award programme, open to medical students enrolled at McGill University. The primary objective is to provide medical students with an opportunity to undertake a research-based project using the Osler Library’s resources. It is expected that the award will lead to scholarly output that will be of mutual benefit to the participant and the Osler Library.

International Medical Student Scholarship Program

Established in 2024, this award is funded by the American Osler Society to support medical student research in the medical humanities. The award allows two medical students matriculated in an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school in the United States or Canada to carry out research using the rich and varied collections of the medical humanities in institutions in the United Kingdom, including rare books, archives and artifacts as well as other resources available in private and public collections in these locations.

McGill Osler Society

Established in 1921, the Osler Society is McGill’s oldest student society. In the spirit of Sir William Osler, the Society aims to enrich the education of McGill students in medicine and other disciplines with lectures given by distinguished guest speakers, and with the presentation and discussion of papers concerning Humanities and the Social Sciences in Medicine. Furthermore, the Society puts a focus on developing philanthropy among medical students and on exploring enriching experiences that allow students develop into more well-rounded physicians.
